Super Hero Party Decorations

You can find super hero posters online to decorate the walls of your party area. You can also use old comic books and tape them to the walls as decorations. Use action figures to decorate the table, Use streamers that have the same colours as the super heroes costumes. It may be hard to find some super hero decorations, but they can usually be ordered online. You can also print images of super heroes off your computer, from the internet. Use your child’s favorite super hero as the table centerpiece, and surround it with balloons.

 Super Hero Invitations

Buy invitations online, or make your own from card stock paper. Choose colours to match your party theme. On the front write a message such as Calling all super heroes, Join together to celebrate (your child’s name here) party. On the back, write a message for each child to come dressed as their favorite super hero.

Super Hero Party Games

•  Find Green Kryptons:

Hide a bunch of small green stones (or marbles) for the kids to find. The child that finds the most, wins a small prize, and let each child keep the stones they find as a party favor.

•  Follow the Hero:

This is the same as playing follow the leader. Let each child have a turn at putting on a red cape with lighting bolts painted on it, and being the leader. They can run, dance, or jump, and everyone has to follow what they do.

•  Pin the S on Superman:

This is just like in the tail on the donkey, you just substitute a poster of superman for the donkey. Blindfold each child when it is their turn, and spin them around three times. Then they pin a S on the poster, and the one that is the closest, wins a small prize.

 Super Hero Party Food and Drinks

• Superhero Sandwich:

 

Cut two long loaves bread length wise and fill it with different kinds of meat, and cheese. Layer it all, and cut into small pieces.

•  Mini Superhero Sandwiches:

Use cookie cutters such as bats and lightning bolts to cut regular sandwiches in superhero shapes.

•  Super Power Sticks:

Cut carrot sticks in half, and place a piece of string Mozzarella cheese inside.

•  Green Goblin Salad:

Mix a bunch of different kinds of green candies in a salad bowl. You can use green Skittles, green M&M’s, different shades of green jelly beans, green gummy worms and bugs, etc.

•  Mini Radioactive Spider Sandwiches:

Use a cookie cutter and cut the sandwiches into an egg or oval shape. Use small veggie sticks for the spider legs, and black olives for the spider eyes.

•  Super Hero Soda :

Add two scoops of vanilla ice cream to a cup and pour over the lemonade. 

• Super Transforming Drink:

Place different coloured ice cubes (made from frozen flavoured drinks) into a clear drink such as soda water or lemonade. It will transform the clear drink magically into whatever colour the ice cube is. 

 Superhero Party Favors

There are many party favors available for superhero parties – stickers, pencils, pens, erasers, notebooks etc.  You can also get superhero goody bags or re-useable bags available from Children’s Xi-10 Parties online store.

Wizard of Oz invitations: 

You can get invitations for this theme on the internet, or even make them yourself. You can take emerald green paper, cut it into postcard size, and glue a cut out of a yellow brick road and blue sky onto the green paper. On the front write “Follow The Yellow Brick Road” to Emerald City (your child’s name here ) house. On the back, write all the details, such as, RSVP to the grand wizard, etc. for the party. Also include on the invitation that each child should come dressed as their favorite Wizard of Oz character. This will add to the fun.

Wizard of Oz Decorations:

 Make an amazing party area with lots of emerald balloons, streamers, and confetti. Have a yellow brick road on the floor made from banner paper, yellow plastic sheet, or paint the footpath with bright yellow chalk. Have a huge banner that says something like “Come One, Come All, To The Land Of Oz”. Put little dollhouses or playhouses down with paper crepe made witch’s legs and ruby red hoes sticking out from under it. You can even find old wizard of Oz posters online to hang on the walls. Have the movie, for a viewing of the show during the party.

Wizard of Oz Games:

- Pin the Heart on the Tin Man:

Cut out a tin man shape and paint it from cardboard or poster board. Cut out heart shapes and color them red, or use red construction paper to play pin the heart on the tin man. This is just like pin the tail on the donkey, so remember to use a blindfold. Spin each child around 3 times and let them try to stick the heart in the right place. The one that comes closest wins a prize.

Witch’s Broom Relay Race:

Paint two bricks yellow and put them at each end of the garden. Place a large X a fair distance from the bricks. As a starting point, divide the children into teams of two and line them up, one team at each brick. Give each team a broom and ball. Each player has to roll the ball with the broom all the way to and around the yellow brick and back to their line. Then the next player goes. The first team to finish wins the game.

Melt the Witch:

Place a drawing of a Witch on a wall or fence outside your home. Fill up a lot of water balloons, and let each child throw them to melt the witch. All kids love water balloons.

Wizard of Oz Bowling:

Get a bunch of empty water bottles. Tape images of different characters from the Wizard of Oz on the bottles. Place them a distance away from where the kids are standing. Give the children small to medium size balls to use to knock down as many bottles as possible, just like in a real bowling alley.

Wizard of Oz Party Favors:

Rainbow items: Stationery (pencils, erasers, notepad etc.), soap, pack of crayons, playdoh, set of rainbow coloured paper etc.

Blue and white gingham fabric used as a party or lolly bag.

Wizard of Oz Party Food:

Dip half of a pretzel sticks in melted white chocolate, and roll the sticks in rainbow coloured sprinkles.

Munchkin Munchies:

Serve miniature snacks such as mini sandwiches, mini cookies, mini crackers, mini sausages, mini cupcakes etc. You can also serve M&M’s, skittles, or any small foods.

Wizard of Oz Birthday Party Drink:

 Magic Oz Cubes:

A day before the party, pour different flavoured squash into ice cube trays and freeze to create freezer pops. You then add them to lemonade as magic coloured ice cubes.

Witch’s Brew:

Mix white grape juice with ginger ale and add green flavoured squash ice cubes to make the drink magically turn green.

 Select the party theme… 

 Planning your child‘s party can seem a little daunting and overwhelming. You want to throw an amazing party that your child will always remember. If you throw a bad party and it is a disaster, they will remember that always too. The way to make sure your child’s party does not bomb and is totally successful is to center it on one theme.

A theme lets you incorporate all the various party elements. It puts you on the right track to every decorating decision, and it will help with all your party planning activities. Having a party theme is crucial.

How to select a theme…

Choosing the right theme for your child’s party will depend on five important factors.

1.  Y ou need to select a theme that matches your child’s age. Superheroes might be great for a group of 5 or 6 year old children, but 10 to 12 year old kids would be embarrassed by it.

• Just make sure your party theme is age appropriate.

 2.   Make sure to select a theme on something that your child is interested in. If your child loves soccer or cheerleading, make sports or dancing your theme.

• Anything your child likes will make a great party theme.

3.    Select a theme based on why you are having the party, for instance, birthday or intermediate school graduation. You can also theme it around the season or time of the year. So, If your party happens during the summer, then select a pool or beach party theme, or during Halloween, make it a scary theme party.

 4.   If your party will be at a location such as the zoo, you can still have a theme and have a zoo or animal theme party.  If you are going to a sea aquarium, then make your theme a mermaid and pirates themed party. The sky is the limit when deciding on a theme.

5.   If you are having an entertainer at your child’s party, such as a clown, then make your theme a circus or carnival theme party. If you are having a magician, then make it a secret agent / spy theme party.

The best way to select a party theme is to ask your child what they like or want. Most children have an idea of how they want their party to be, so get them involved, that way there will be no disappointment for your child or for you. Get your child to give you three different themes they would like, that way if you can’t do one of them, you have two more to select from.

Once your party theme has been selected, the rest of your party planning will be a piece of cake. The party activities, invitations, decorations, party food and party favors will be in sync with your party theme.

  Select the party venue…

 Now that you have selected the part date and time, you need to select the location. There are four normal options when selecting a location.

(1) Inside your home is a good option if the weather is cold or it is raining.

(2) Outside your home is one of the best party places, as it allows the children to run and play, you could even switch this to your local park or playground, halls or community centre for even more fun.

(3) Indoor playground and party venues means all you do is turn up and the party is managed by them. There is no messy clean up for you either, which makes this a lot easier. You may find that your party will depend on the time slot available on the day.  

(4) Game rooms, such as miniature golf or bowling are great places to have a party, and it provides great entertainment especially for older children.

 Select the party time…. 

Party Time

Consider the time of the day you wish to have your party. If your party will be somewhere other than your home, make sure to book the location before setting the time. Morning parties work well from 11.00am to 1.00pm, serving lunch at noon. 

Parties in the afternoon parties gives you a little extra time to get things ready but you’ll definitely have to find something to keep the kids busy. 2.00pm to 4.00pm is very popular and you can serve afternoon tea at 3.00pm. 

Remember to start your party planning at least six weeks in advance, that way you will have plenty of time.

Changing the way I  eat was easy enough to follow. A healthy breakfast (goodbye muffins, croissants and pancakes). Main meal at lunchtime and then a light dinner. Up to this point, its all so easy though I must admit I have not had a 100% clean record.

My biggest challenge is often at night when I finally get a moment to sit down. This is often when I crave something to eat. I still have a bit of work to discipline myself during this period.

None of this healthy eating will make a difference if I don’t exercise. Now here lies the problem…..I have a 15 minutes walk in the morning and another 15 minutes in the evening and THAT’S IT! I would love to do a bit more (I’m sure) but not having a baby-sitter makes dashing out in the evening a bit too complicated. I will need to find a good exercise regime I can do from home.

Though this is only week 1 and I can’t see any difference yet, I’m sure changes to my health will be more apparent  over the next few weeks.

Week 2 and the challenge continues….

 Select The Party Date…

 The first thing you need to do before you plan your party is to select a party date. This is what the rest of your party will hinge on. The party date does not have to be the exact date of your child’s birthday. For instance, if your child was born during the school holidays, you could have the party before or after the holidays. The same applies to birthdays during public holidays e.g. Labour weekend, Queen’s birthday weekend etc.

 Most parents would rather bring their child to a weekend party as they are so busy or working during the week but remember, some entertainers or venues offer a discount for mid-week parties.

 Make sure everyone your child wants to attend, can make the date, before you set it in stone.
