Having a themed entertainer (Mermaid or Pirate) takes the stress of having to do everything yourself. You can use the time to prepare the food, take photos or spend some time with the other parents. Here are a few simple games that you can also do with the kids.

    Go Fish:

Fill up a plastic pool with fish and let the kids go fishing. Use a small fishing pole with a clothespin on the end, and blindfold the child. Then clamp the clothespin on one of the fish. Have a number written on each fish, and that number corresponds to a certain prize.

    Treasure Hunt:

Hide the treasure around the house and / or garden before the guests arrive. Explain to the mermaids and pirates what they are hunting for and set them off on their treasure hunt!

Wrap each child’s treasure in a different coloured / patterned paper, saving a sample piece for the child. Hide the treasure around the room / garden before the party. Give each child their own unique sample of wrapping paper to match to their piece of hidden treasure.

    Treasure Diving:

Fill up a small plastic pool with water. Place little party favors, such as little gems, gold coins, necklaces, toy fish, and seashells at the bottom. Blindfold every player, and let them dive for treasure.

Hide treasures in the sandpit and let the children dig out the toys.

     Water balloon toss:

Give each team a point each time one of their players busts a balloon.

    Musical Islands:

The island can be hula hoops placed on the floor or paper cut in random island outlines spread out around the room or garden. Have one less than the number of children playing. As the music plays, each child dances around the islands. When the music stops each child must stand on / in and island. The child without an island stands out of the game. Remove an island each round until you have a winner.
